Esmay is a deeply personal, produce-driven restaurant by Chef Alanna Sapwell-Stone, now open in Adelaide. Set within the former Hackney Hotel — a heritage-listed building dating back to 1883 — the space has been carefully restored. Original fireplaces and stained-glass windows remain, bringing old-world charm to a fresh, thoughtful beginning.

Inside, the intimate 40-seat dining room blends quiet refinement with historical character, reflecting Esmay’s guiding philosophy: warm hospitality, seasonal produce, and food that nourishes in more ways than one.

For Sapwell-Stone, reimagining this space from the ground up means considering every detail — from the music and lighting, to the subtle ‘nanna move’ of sneaking nutrient-dense vegetables into dishes. When you walk out feeling good, there are many reasons why — some you’ll notice, and others you simply feel.
